SYTYCD 15 Second Live Show

Best of the night for me was Magda & Darius’ fabulous smooth jazz performance choreographed by Mandy Moore. They really got the style down. I like this subtle and sophisticated vibe more compared to the usual fiery, edgy, power struggle-themed jazz pieces we get from the show.

Jensen & Jay Jay’s contemporary number will probably earn the popularity vote tonight. This Jaci Royal choreography was stunning. It was beautifully danced and their bodies were able to communicate the feeling of the song. However, for some reason, I don’t get the same feeling from Jensen’s face and I somehow don’t feel their chemistry. It’s probably just me.

The true winners of tonight’s episode were Cole and Hannahlei. Their two numbers were strong. Hannahlei is slaying every style. She is definitely a strong contender for the win. And I thought Cole didn’t look that awkward doing step as a ballroom dancer. In fact, I think he did really well. Also, it’s been a while since I liked a disco number. Sure, the spins could’ve been a little bit sharper but hey, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Out of tonight’s performances, it’s my second favorite.

On to the others:

Chemistry and charisma will probably help Slavik and Genessy pair survive but I’m kind of disappointed that Slavik barely danced this week. Is it the choreography or the style that didn’t help? I don’t know. Based on the performances alone, they’re my bottom two but I still want to continue watching Slavik grow so I hope he doesn’t go home next week.

I was really distracted by the costume design for the African jazz and Bollywood numbers. I guess I’m not a fan of the multi-colored paint splatter, ink blot pattern. Too bad. I thought there were some great moments in those dances.

For Chelsea & Evan’s performances, umm…I really liked her white dress and the snow effect?

I’m kind of scared of next week’s results. Please save Slavik. If I were to choose, I’d let Darius and Genessy go. Oooh, a Magda-Slavik pairing sounds fantastic! They’ll probably become my favorite couple.

SYTYCD just went oh boom!💥

Nigel was right when he said the pairings were perfect tonight. Golly gee, I don’t even know where to start. *deep breath* Okay…best of the night for me was Travis Wall’s piece to Glass Heart Concerto. Emmy! Emmy! Emmy! Just give this genius choreographer another Emmy! This was pure art. I loved everything about about it — the concept, the shapes, the mood, everything. Exquisite!

I actually loved both of Magda’s performances.

My girl was fire in the cha cha too by Val Chmerkovskiy. 🔥 I especially liked that red dress. She reminded me a bit of Jasmine, the Disney princess. Darius could’ve been stronger but sure, ballroom is not his forte. I thought he did a fabulous job outside his genre.

The other beast of a couple is Cole and Hannahlei. This Tyce Diorio contemporary piece to They Won’t Go When I Go (Remastered) was haunting. I felt the tragedy and desperation in their performance. I think these two are power houses in that I feel that they have technique, personality, and chemistry.

Speaking of chemistry, I felt the chemistry oozing out of these two — probably the most believable. I noticed Genessy for the first time here. She’s a natural. Slavik said before that he struggles with hip hop choreography. I saw that a bit here but I can see that his popping is great. I’m curious about his solo since I’ve heard good things about it. Their contemporary number choreographed by Talia Favia was pretty good too. I thought Slavik did better at contemporary than hip hop.

The pleasant surprise for me was this tap number by Chelsea and Evan. I like this version of Singin’ In The Rain and the whole number was dreamy. Chelsea looked like Tiana from Princess and the Frog. I thought she was very elegant and beautiful in this. This got me all tingly inside. Props to her for being brave enough to take on tap! It is very stylized and technique heavy.

Jensen and Jay Jay were sassy. They are team personality. I think Jay Jay enjoyed that samba more than Jensen. Haha. They may not be my favorites but they were really fun to watch.

So final picks for tonight, Magda and Cole are still my favorites followed by Hannahlei and Slavik. Overall great show tonight! What a fabulous way to kick off the live shows!

Oh by the way, that opening number was very Travis Wall. It was picturesque and surreal. ✨

Did I repost almost all the recent videos on the SYTYCD Youtube channel today? 🤦‍♀️ Sorry, I just really enjoyed today’s episode. 💖

[SYTYCD 15 Top 5 Boys] Team Cole? Team Slavik?

The boys are really good this season. The judges probably had a hard time deciding who to keep.

I didn’t get to see Cole Mills’ latin ballroom audition but this contemporary duet with Jaime was breathtaking.  Well, it’s a no brainer since the great Travis Wall choreographed it. I also liked Travis Wall’s piece that Kyle performed. Too bad he didn’t make the cut. I hope he comes back again to try next year.

Slavik Pustovoytov is a new discovery for me. He didn’t get much air time during the auditions and the Academy. His expertise is hip-hop but I haven’t seen him dance solo yet. However, this sultry Tyce Diorio’s jazz piece really made him stand out enough to convince me as a fan to put him on my list too. He stood his ground next to the brilliant Allison Holker. He is my second pick for the boys. Cole only won by a very small margin.

I want to see them dance in their own style soon so I can more definitively decide who to root for this season. But so far, I’m Team Ballroom!

[SYTYCD 15 Top 5 Girls] Team Magda Fialek

Hurray! I finally caught up with the So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) Season 15 episodes. This is my all-time favorite TV show. I watched all the previous seasons and enjoyed every single one of them.

My favorite audition this year was from this ballroom trio. The music was addicting. They had a storyline I could follow. The choreography was hot and these dancers committed to it.  Magda Fialek is my favorite girl this season.

I also loved her contemporary duet with Robert, which was choreographed by Mandy Moore to the acoustic version of What About Us during Academy Week.

On the other hand, Hannahlei is my dark horse. She is not my favorite but I think she’s versatile and will probably do really well on the show. Her audition was really strong and she nailed every round in the Academy. She reminds me a bit of Koine from Season 14.

I’m excited to see more performances from these two!

I’ll comment on the guys after watching next week’s episode. I didn’t get to see all of them dance yet.
