Keeping a pure heart ðŸ’–

今日は誕生日です。🍰 My morning devotion has set the tone of the day. It helped me meditate on what I would call “themes” in my life. Garbage in, garbage out. “What we let into our minds shapes the state of our souls.” Let us guard our eyes and hearts and be careful of what we let into our lives. And the call to prayer today goes “God, help me to use my time well and to fill my mind with what is pure.” (ODB)

I’ve always considered myself an idealist. I sincerely want to pursue what is right in the eyes of God. Hence the following verses in today’s reading really resonated with me:

The Lord detests the way of the wicked,
but he loves those who pursue righteousness. (Psalm 15:9)

The discerning heart seeks knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. (Psalm 15:14)

Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,
but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course. (Psalm 15:21)

It reminded me of one of my life verses.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9-10)

I want to keep filling my heart with love and happiness instead of hatred and resentment. I want to keep my thoughts and desires pure despite what the world inclines me to have. Most people will probably find it cliche, boring or naive and that’s okay. This is the kind of life I want to lead. I’m content and happy. Also, I want to find people who pursue the right things too.

I’m thankful for God’s grace and spiritual discipline that I didn’t develop curiosity nor do I feel an urge to watch horror films and graphic stuff. I’m not blindsided or anything like that. I don’t deny the existence of evil and injustice in the world. I just don’t want to feed my soul with those junk. I still enjoy watching things that inspire me to dream and hope for a better world.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to what the Lord has in store for me today and for the rest of my life. Happy birthday to me! 🎂
